Empowering marginalised voices through social entrepreneurship: the journey of Roma communities in Hungary a fictional project that applies Sanabria-Z’s Educational-Digital Gradual Immersion Method (EDGIM). It is inspired by several UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The integration of Roma communities into Hungarian society has been a longstanding issue. These communities face challenges related to historical discrimination, socio-economic disparities, and cultural marginalization. Despite being part of Hungarian society, Roma individuals often face high poverty levels, unemployment, inadequate housing, and limited access to education and healthcare. Several Roma communities exist, especially in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Thus, these social issues extend beyond Hungary.

Unfortunately, Roma communities in Hungary have been subject to various forms of discrimination and violence, including hate crimes. These stem from deep-rooted prejudices and stereotypes against the Roma population. Incidents of violence, harassment, and vandalism targeting Roma individuals and communities have been reported over the years.
Several high-profile cases have underscored the severity of the issue. For instance, in 2008, racially motivated attacks occurred in several Hungarian villages, leading to multiple deaths among Roma individuals, including women and children. These attacks sparked domestic and international outrage, prompting calls for stronger measures to address hate crimes and protect vulnerable communities. Although Hungary has made strides in addressing hate crimes and promoting social inclusion, challenges remain in eliminating the root causes of discrimination and ensuring justice for victims. Continued efforts are needed to combat prejudice, promote tolerance, and protect the rights and safety of Roma communities in Hungary.
